On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to

3.1 Pharmacology-II

  1. Understood the principles of animal toxicology and bioassay procedures.
  2. Depth knowledge on cell, macromolecules, cell signaling, DNA replication and cell cycle.
  3. Appreciate the importance of gene and its structure, genome, gene expression, recombinant DNA technology and other associated aspects
  4. Apply the knowledge of drugs practically using simulated pharmacological experiments
  5. Describing about the different drugs used for treatment of diseases.

Practical

  1. Perform simulated experiment for screening of drug
  2. Explain toxicity profile of drug substances
  3. Discuss DNA recombinant technology & its uses

3.2 Pharmaceutical Analysis

  1. Understand the importance of analysis in pharmaceutical industry
  2. Understand the knowledge about assay of pharmaceutical substance and product
  3. Develop basic practical skills using instrumental techniques
  4. Inculcate theoretical knowledge on various instrumental techniques adopted for analysis of pharmaceuticals

Practical

  1. Understand and gain knowledge on trouble shooting in adopting various methodologies using instrumental techniques
  2. Develop various methodologies for assay of drugs and pharmaceuticals with the skills and knowledge gained
  3. Perform experiment with qualitative & quantitative analysis of drug & pharmaceuticals
  4. Demonstrate interpretation & structural elucidation of drugs

3.3 Pharmacotherapeutics-II

  1. Know the pathophysiology of selected disease states and the rationale for drug therapy
  2. Explain the therapeutic approach to management of these diseases
  3. Understand the controversies in drug therapy
  4. Describe the importance of preparation of individualized therapeutic plans based on diagnosis
  5. Appreciate the needs to identify the patient-specific parameters relevant in initiating drug therapy, and monitoring therapy

Practical

  1. Developing Patient case based Assessment Skills
  2. Describe the quality use of medicines issues surrounding the therapeutic agents in the treatment of these diseases
  3. Develop clinical skills in the therapeutic management of these conditions

3.4 Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence

  1. Practice the Professional ethics
  2. Understand the various concepts of the pharmaceutical legislation in India
  3. Explain the Drug policy, DPCO, Patent and design act
  4. Understand the labeling requirements and packaging guidelines for drugs and cosmetics
  5. Understand the concepts of Dangerous Drugs Act, Pharmacy Act and Excise duties Act

3.5 Medicinal Chemistry

  1. Understand the chemistry of drugs with respect to their biological activity
  2. Explain the metabolism, adverse effect and therapeutic activity of drugs.
  3. Understand the different modern techniques of drug design.
  4. Appreciate the SAR of some important drug classes
  5. Acquire knowledge in the chemotherapy for cancer and microbial diseases and different anti-viral agents

Practical

  1. Discuss drug classes and some pharmacological properties
  2. Explain SAR & their relationships with activity of some important drug classes
  3. Knowledge in the chemotherapy for cancer and microbial diseases and different anti-viral agents
